K-9 Puppy Sleeps Through His Entire Swearing-In Ceremony

He slept through the entire ceremony, only waking up shortly to pose for the photo.

Have you ever wanted to nap at your desk or cubicle after a long, hard day at work? Or perhaps you had a sleepless night before your new job and just couldn’t sleep because you were so nervous, ending up feeling completely out of it on your first day?

That’s what happened to this small dog from Rhode Island. Brody, the Bristol Police Department’s new K-9 comfort dog, had a big day.

The 12-week-old dog awoke extra early for his historic swearing-in ceremony, but the little guy just couldn’t keep his eyes up and ended up snoozing the entire time. (The video can be found in the article’s footer.)

“He plays really hard and he sleeps really hard,” Officer Keith Medeiros, Brody’s handler, told The Dodo: “When he’s not playing, he’s sleeping, which is kind of tough because he sleeps a lot.”

Yes, the small guy was so excited that it was simply too much for him, and he zoned out on the desk, leaving the officers to finish the job.

So, how exactly did Brody obtain his job? The police department was apparently considering whether to add a drugs or bomb-sniffing dog to the team, but Mederios, the school resource officer, had a different idea. Instead, he chose a therapy dog.

The idea was well received by the entire team, and Brody joined the company in mid-March 2020. The timing was initially concerning because Brody needed to be exposed to a typical day at work while he was still new, and the coronavirus outbreak had made things tough.

Brody, on the other hand, had arrived at the perfect time. According to Medeiros:

“People are extremely stressed, particularly in law enforcement.” Just stepping into the police station with Brody makes people grin and puts them in a better mood. They want to pet him, love him, and it’s just a wonderful thing.”

Brody will be visiting schools and nursing homes as part of a new programme, as well as spending time bonding with the local community.

He’ll also be working with other officers to console crime victims. With such a vital and thrilling job, it’s no surprise that this little guy requires as much sleep as he can get.

Little Brody may have dozed off during his ceremony, but he’s just conserving energy for all the vital work he has ahead of him.

He’s certainly the best kid, and the people of Rhode Island are fortunate to have such a lovely and loyal police dog on their force.
